Change of pace this week!

This week was the annual game jam! Usually, it would only be a weekend and we'd all be in the same room. Pros and cons. We got much more time, but with way less communication. The team voted to do pixel art. It was new to me and out of my comfort zone, but I had fun. I thought it was going to turn out pretty well, despite creative differences. It didn't.

Not gonna lie, I'm a tad frustrated. Somewhere in the execution, everything went wrong. Every sprite (barring 1 or 2), ended up blurry somehow. Despite plans for a somewhat engaging battle and customization system, the game ended up being beatable by hitting one button over and over. No exaggeration. And despite having a sound designer/musician on our team, the game is dead silent. I know how bitter I sound, but in the end it was a positive experience. I learned a new medium, and it was a learning experience for everyone. I had fun. No one reads my blog anyway, so it's a nice place to vent.

Takeaways:

-I can do pixelart now!

-collaboration between passionate people is tough, but rewarding

-Learn how to implement assets in the engine

-Trust no one! (jk)
