It seems I've missed four straight weeks of blog posts.

While I don't have any good excuse, I will say it's been an eventful month for me, in and out of the game dev program.
First off, Squircle and Beam is gone. Kaput. Reduced to dust. More on that later.
I also learned to texture with Substance Painter, which had a pretty steep learning curve. I've textured a few different assets for Moonlight Sprinters. That lead to learning how to set up meshes and materials in Unreal Engine. Also in Unreal, I'm learning how to set up skeletal meshes and physics for the vehicles. In other news, there's another game jam next week. I'm more confident in myself and my team this time around. Who knows, we might end up with something playable.
On to the main event, the SAB postmortem:
I should say, it makes perfect sense that it got shut down: we're this far in the school year and we have nothing playable. It is unfortunate though. Katelyn is so passionate about this project. I think the biggest flaw in the project has been the spotty communication. We have had weekly meetings, but the conversation didn't go much further than, "work is going ok I guess". Without regular conversation, comradery never really developed, and passion died down. Aside from that though, we didn't have enough programmers to set up levels, and maybe the scope was too big from the start.

wip of a thing I did for fun that demonstrates none of the newly acquired skills I've listed
